Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common lung disease that is most commonly caused by smoking (cigarettes, e-cigarettes etc.). It is associated with daily symptoms (like cough, mucous production and shortness of breath), acute flare ups (acute exacerbations) and a poor quality of life. It is the leading cause of hospitalizations in Alberta and in Canada. However, it doesn’t need to be that way.

The COPD Clinic at the University Lung Clinic is a multi-disciplinary clinic involving health care practitioners who have a special clinical and research interest in COPD. We welcome any referrals on patients living with or suspected of having COPD . The purpose of the clinic is to take a systemic approach to the patients COPD management and develop a PERSONALIZED management plan to give them the best long term outcomes.

As well, patients referred into our clinic will have the opportunity to be involved in our robust clinical research program, which ranges from patient related clinical outcomes to clinical pharmaceutical trials that are examining novel therapeutic targets that may improve COPD care.

Our referral form can be found on our website. We look forward to working with you and your patients to improve their lung health.
